Haruki Murakami se raconte et nous raconte sa drôle de profession : romancier ! L'auteur dévoile les ficelles de ses créations, s'interroge sur l'avenir du livre, et prodigue conseils et encouragements aux écrivains en herbe. Ecrire un roman n'est pas très difficile. Ecrire un roman magnifique n'est pas non plus si difficile. Je ne prétends pas que c'est simple, mais ce n'est pas non plus impossible.
Ce qui est particulièrement ardu, en revanche, c'est d'écrire des romans encore et encore, sur une longue durée. Tout le monde n'en est pas capable. Comme je l'ai déjà dit, il faut disposer d'une capacité particulière, qui est certainement un peu différente du simple " talent ". Bon, mais comment savoir si l'on possède cette aptitude ? Voici la réponse : sautez dans l'eau et voyez si vous nagez ou si vous coulez.
Une façon de parler rude, certes, mais au fond, la vie, c'est comme ça. Par ailleurs, rien n'empêche ceux qui n'ont pas besoin d'écrire de roman, (ou qui préfèrent ne pas en écrire) de mener une vie sage et parfaitement valable. Et ceux qui veulent écrire, qui ne peuvent supporter de ne pas écrire, ceux-là écriront des romans. Et continueront à écrire. En tant que romancier, je les accueille bien volontiers.
